The park folks never knew the mother was pregnant -- and they carry for 22 months! Baby Sendra was born weighing 200 lbs and is now 13 months and weighs about 700 lbs.

elephant ride 3.jpg
It ain't easy -- getting up there or staying up there! And it makes photography pretty near impossible.

elephant ride 2.jpg
Moving through the brush in search of animals -- rhinos and the ever elusive Bengal Tiger.

elephant ride 4.jpg
Amazingly the elephant is very sure footed -- well, I guess with a foot that large it really isn't so amazing. But when they start straight down, you get a bit anxious.

Big Daddy! These are Asian elephants -- different from African elephants. The male weighs about a ton less and is not as large. The head has two domes -- only one on the Africa elephant. They eat about 600 lbs a day! I can't even eat that much.

Here's looking at you kid....right outside my tent door. I know he was looking for chocolate (and I had some).

python.jpg
Yeah, we're just sitting down below having a peaceful dinner when one of the cooks said, "Look up, Madam. See what lives here in the dining hall?" Lovely...a python as a dinner companion. Not as strange as some I've had.
