I'm Back!
Can't believe I have not posted in so long.....sorry. Stuff just seemed to get in the way -- work, the house at Serenbe, more work, teaching myself to knit, taking up pottery, yaddayaddayadda. But I've been told by several how tired you all are of seeing the "ladies"....
For the past six months, the yard at Serenbe has been a real struggle. Requirements are for a naturalized yard -- i.e., no grass. This is a challenge for my front yard as it is quite large compared to the other yards in front of the cottages. Last year, the landscaper installed 3 different sizes of "grass" -- love grass, mosquito grass, and one other that I don't recall. Unfortunately, my yard came to be known as the "bad hair patch job" -- and here's why:
Obviously, a mess of little tufts throughout the yard. Last Friday, a crew of laborers came in and pulled all the hair oops grass plugs. This week another crew came in to plant other options. I decided I would rather be unhappy with my design than someone else's. So, in the front there will be confederate jasmine beds on both sides at the front of the street. The sidewalk is anchored with vinca minor under the allee of dogwood trees. There are fern glens on both sides under the trees. I brought in 3 more deodar cedars to screen the house on the left side. Large camellias will anchor the front and block all the electrical boxes from my view. Azaleas will soften the road edge on the right. And a few whirling butterfly bushes will be placed along the vinca minor beds. I'll post more pics when all of this is finished.
